Raoul Hausmann was an Austrian-born artist, writer and poet who became one of the central figures of the Berlin Dada movement. Active in Berlin from 1909, he experimented with painting, photography, collage and photomontage, helping to establish photomontage as a major avant-garde technique. Together with Hannah Höch, George Grosz and John Heartfield, he challenged conventional artistic and social values through provocative, often satirical works. Hausmann later moved through various European countries and settled in Limoges, France, where he died in 1971.
