Jacques Villon ( 1875 - 1963 )

Jacques Villon (1875–1963) was a French painter and printmaker, born as Gaston Duchamp. He was the older brother of the famous artist Marcel Duchamp. Villon played an important role in the development of modern art in the early 20th century, especially as a member of the avant-garde group Section d'Or. His work combined elements of Cubism with a personal, lyrical style. As a printmaker, he was highly influential and helped popularize abstract art. In the 1950s, he gained international recognition, and his work was exhibited in major exhibitions and museums around the world. Villon chose his pseudonym in honor of the medieval poet François Villon.
