Johan Tahon's plaster sculptures are deformed shapes based on the human body. They have an extraterrestrial look about them because of the addition or removal of body parts and the incorporation of alien elements in the shapes. His assault on human anatomy confronts the viewer with the 'condition humaine'. The misshapen figures have unnatural extensions, bulges and swellings. By now Tahon has built up an oeuvre consisting of an entire series of tormented and yet at the same time tender, serene forms.
