Marie-Jo Lafontaine is a sculptress, photographer and video artist. She made her international breakthrough in 1987 with the monumental video installation "Les larmes d'acier", which she created for Documenta VIII in Kassel. She was one of the first to use video as medium for making art. Lafontaine is fascinated by human emotions. In her work, she explores the contradictory features of these emotions, such as violence and passion, power and pain, and beauty and fear.
