Wout Vercammen is a self-thaught visual and performance artist. In the early 1960s, Vercammen, together with contemporaries like Panamarenko, organised the first Belgian happenings, multidisciplinary performances that took place unannounced and with active audience participation. In later years, Vercammen turned to making socially critical paintings bearing texts such as "Wir haben es gewusst", often written in the colours of the Belgian flag. His recent kinetic Lego sculptures are more like humorous, monumental constructions.
