Jan Vanriet ( Antwerp 1948 )

Jan Vanriet is a painter and a poet. The roots of his work lie in the violent history of the 20th century. War and destruction, dissappearance, persecution, deportation and death are recurrent subjects in his oeuvre. His war-inspired work is closely linked to his own family history. His paintings and drawings are primarily portraits and landscapes; emotionally-charged scenes that bear witness to human shortcomings and the evil that was committed.
