Andy Wauman regards himself as a poetic anarchist. His work originates not from an art history perspective or a conceptual theory, but from social principles and protests against cynism. Language plays an important role in his generally black-and-white work. He uses language to help represent the social context in which he grew up, a context filled with popular culture and digital as well as other media.
