Stefan Vanfleteren ( 1969 )

Stephan Vanfleteren studied photography at Sint-Lukas Brussels from 1988 to 1992. He worked as a freelance photographer for the Belgian newspaper De Morgen from 1993 to 2009, but continued to be involved in his own projects. Vanfleteren specializes in black-and-white portraits at home and abroad. His documentary photography covers the disappearance of small, anarchic worlds and the phenomena of everyday life in Belgium, as well as events from conflict zones and portrayals of everyday life around the world. Currently working mainly for foreign newspapers and magazines, Vanfleteren is a co-founder and the Art Director of Cannibal/Hannibal Publishing. His work has been shown in numerous exhibitions across the world such as Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool, Fotomuseum in Antwerp, Host Galley in London, Bozar and Centre Botanique in Brussels, Wintercircus Mahy in Gent, Hanagar Art Center in Caïro, Gallery Gate in Rome, Galerie Hilaneh von Kories in Hamburg, and UN Headquarter in New York.
