During his training as a painter, Jan Van Oost discovered that he had a prference for sculpture. He is fascinated by the effect of space, the sense of mouvement, and the dialogue between the work of art and the space in which it finds itself. His works are made from everyday objects and materials. They are confusing and turbulent works; death lurks behind a façade of opulence and outward appearance. Mortality is a recurrent theme in his work.
