Walter Swennen ( Vorst 1946 )

Walter Swenne is known not only for his radical, experimental and associative way of painting, but also for his belief in the complete autonomy of the work of art. He does not think that a work of art should provoke an emotion; the main objective of a painting is painting itself (l'art pour l'art). His work is an ongoing exploration of the potential and limits of painting and of the fundamental questions regarding what to paint and which technique to use.
