Bert De Beul ( Gent 1961 )

After studying art history and working as a collections manager at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Antwerp (M HKA) Bert De Beul decided to devote his career to painting. De Beul’s compositions are characterized by the fuzzy nature of the subjects depicted. They are figurative but distant at the same time, which makes his works abstract. Furthermore, his images are composed in such a way that part of the painting has to be imagined. This is also the reason why De Beul’s works hardly have any title. He bases his paintings on reality but without directly reflecting what he sees. He believes that our look at society or at nature never really is objective since we are perpetually influenced by previous experiences
